Support and Guidance

Every child at Downend is valued and nurtured. Students are seen as individuals and measures are taken to ensure they are happy, feel safe, enjoy learning and make the best of their talents. There are many ways that students can access further support and guidance.

Student Voice

Learning Mentors

The role of the Learning Mentor is to support, guide and encourage any student experiencing emotional, behavioural or academic issues, with an aim of removing barriers to learning.

We work with students on a one-one basis or as part of small groups, with an aim of helping each student to develop the skills needed to cope with a wide range of issues and situations.

Meetings offer students a confidential space (within Child Protection boundaries) to discuss their feelings and opinions and provide them with the opportunity to find their own way of dealing with situations.
