At GCSE level you need a C, B, A or A*

Health and Social Care is a double award course which means that a grade C is worth TWO Cs at GCSE

Engineering is a double award course which means that a level 2P, for example, is the same as TWO Cs at GCSE. You could pass with a 2P, 2M or 2D

The ALaN exam is taken in addition to the normal English and Maths GCSE exams. It enables the students to gain accreditation at a GCSE B grade in ALaN if they pass both the Literacy and Numeracy. The Literacy and Numeracy exams are taken in separate sittings and you will be notified of these accordingly.
Students can access revision materials for ALaN Literacy and Numeracy on the school website, this can be accessed via the X drive under ALaN Revision Materials 2009 and ALaN Practice Tests 2009.

You will need to gain 5 GCSE C grade or their equivalent to be accepted onto AS courses at college or Downend Post 16 Centre

Support and Guidance

Every child at Downend is valued and nurtured. Students are seen as individuals and measures are taken to ensure they are happy, feel safe, enjoy learning and make the best of their talents. There are many ways that students can access further support and guidance.

Student Voice

Learning Mentors

The role of the Learning Mentor is to support, guide and encourage any student experiencing emotional, behavioural or academic issues, with an aim of removing barriers to learning.

We work with students on a one-one basis or as part of small groups, with an aim of helping each student to develop the skills needed to cope with a wide range of issues and situations.

Meetings offer students a confidential space (within Child Protection boundaries) to discuss their feelings and opinions and provide them with the opportunity to find their own way of dealing with situations.

Connexions
