Year Groups

Every student at Downend School (including the Post 16 Centre) is part of a tutor group. The tutor plays a central role in the school life of every individual student.
Students meet with their tutors every morning. Tutors have opportunities to talk with students about the successes and challenges on all areas of school life and beyond. This may include academic progress, behaviour, attendance, sporting/musical/artistic/dramatic successes and all achievements outside school. The tutor is also a valued first point of contact for parents.
All tutor groups are part of a year group. The year group is led by a Year Coordinator, supported by an assistant. A member of the Senior Leadership Team is assigned to monitor the learning and progress of each year group. All year groups have a weekly assembly. This is a valued opportunity for the year group to meet and develop a strong ethos within the year.
