International Education

A proposal to develop Global Citizenship within a 3 year partnership working alongside a small cluster of schools in South Gloucestershire, Sukhothai in Thailand and East Kalimantan in Indonesia has been welcomed by Downend School. We will be forming a unique collaboration with The British Council Asian Dialogues Connecting Classrooms project. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and teachers here, Thailand, and Indonesia as we begin to create a better understanding of our global society in the 21st Century.
Our partnership schools:

At its heart, the British Council will run the project through a web platform dedicated to the collaboration of teachers, educators and students from across the UK and East Asia, see http://community.britishcouncil.org/asiandialogues/. It is hoped that although the project will only initially run with Year 7’s through a tutor programme, by the end of next year every student and teacher will be able to log in to the site and communicate freely with students from schools within the global partnership.
Downend School hopes to develop our status as a technology college by using the latest ICT to broaden the knowledge and opportunity for our students. Communicating at a global level, our pupils will be exposed to different cultures from around the world and it is hoped that through this experience, teachers and students perceptions will be challenged and their horizons broadened to become ‘global citizens.’ The learning experience for students at Downend will initially be imbedded through the curriculum specifically based upon themes.
Downend students will have the opportunity to not only learn about their local environment and issues facing them, but also learn about international communities and empathise with global issues.
