Welcome to Downend School

Dear Parents

I am delighted to introduce you to Downend School.

As your child embarks upon the journey from primary to secondary school or indeed moves to a new school you have to be assured that you are making the right choice.

As a parent myself I would have been very happy to have sent both my children to Downend. This is a school that is forward thinking and innovative whilst maintaining strong traditional values.

At Downend each child is valued and nurtured.  We get to know each student as an individual ensuring they are happy at school, feel safe, enjoy learning and make the best of their talents. The commitment and hard work of an able and talented group of teachers, support staff and Governors combined with positive engagement of parents creates a climate for success.

Our standards and expectations are high. We expect students to reflect this in their appearance, attitudes and behaviour. We know we are moulding the citizens of the future and will encourage them to care for one another, be open, fair, honest and just.  We want them to have a sense of pride and belonging in being part of our school community. For each child to achieve their best and make the most of all we offer we need your support and encouragement.

We offer an exciting and diverse curriculum.  Students are challenged and supported in their learning and their achievements will open doors to the future.   An extensive range of extra curricular activities are available to enrich their lives beyond lessons.  We aim to challenge and enhance their thinking and motivation so they achieve more than they ever thought possible. This is underpinned with a pastoral system that offers support, care and guidance for each individual.  At Downend ‘Every Child really does Matter.’
