Governors

Welcome to Downend School's Governors page

The governing body has a statutory responsibility to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school and its curriculum. This is carried out by various committees and governors attend appropriate training to enable them to carry out their roles effectively.

The role of the governor is a voluntary one and we have parents, staff, members of the community and local authority represented on our governing body. Governors visit the school during the year through their faculty link and we attend school events to celebrate students' achievements. We have even been judges at Downend’s Got Talent and what fantastic talent there is in many forms within the school to celebrate.

Governors News

In November 2011 our parent governor Mrs Renuka McWilliams attended the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust Conference in Birmingham. There she met with other staff and governors from across the country. Mrs McWilliams found the whole event inspirational, she also took part in workshops and came away with many ideas to share with the governing body: she was even featured in their National Conference Magazine!

The governors have been very busy these last two terms and have attended a number of training courses to improve their effectiveness and understanding of governance and their strategic role within the school.  These courses have included attendance, data, exclusions, finance and governor roles and responsibilities.

We are very pleased that Ms Szwaba has been reappointed as staff governor for a further term of 4 years.

Since Mr Roberts joined the school the governing body has been working closely with him planning the immediate and long term strategic direction of the school.
