A letter from Adam Elgar, who organised the event, reads:
Many thanks for Downend's brilliant contribution to a work related learning event. The five students were extremely impressive, and we've gathered a rich set of ideas which will be gathered into a full report asap. Please thank your team of young people on behalf of City of Bristol College and all the members of the Professional Learning Community.

Downend School Student successful at the UKMT Team Maths Challenge Regional Finals

4 Downend students took part in the regional finals of the Team Maths Challenge in April. Angharad Thomas, Jack Hibbs, Sean Jones and James Hedga represented the school on the day, taking part in a number of rounds against some of the best mathematicians in the area.

Rounds included a relay race, cross number team problem, patter spotting and a group problem solving task. Downend School came 11th out of 23 schools taking part. This is a wonderful result for us, considering that all the local private schools from Bristol and Bath take part in the competition.

Unfortunately we did not make the National Final – that is Bristol Grammar School’s pleasure.
