Humanities
In July 2005, The Humanities Faculty, comprising Geography, History and Religious Studies moved into a suite of seven new purpose-built rooms. All the classrooms benefit from having wireless internet access, interactive white-boards, and regular access to a dedicated ICT room within the block.
This has enabled us to further develop the range of teaching and learning activities used within the Faculty, including groupwork, individual presentations, roleplay, and work of a more traditional nature. We are well resourced with a wealth of textbooks, DVDs and CDs to best support student progress. The vast majority of Downend students take a Humanities course as a full-course GCSE, and enjoy good results.
As a Faculty we aim to do three things:
-
to develop students’ interests and knowledge
- to support students' wider learning through developing literacy and numeracy
- to help students form and express their own opinions about their world
Visits, trips and external presentations play a key part in our philosophy, and we value the contributions of all.
