Student Voice
Student Voice is about Action
Student Voice allows students to share who they are, what they believe, and why they believe what they do with their peers, parents, teachers, and their entire school. The Student Voice can be engaged in numerous ways in classrooms and beyond the school.
At Downend we have students who have been part of focus groups about their Learning and about Assessment for Learning. This means that students will take on tasks according to their role, to help deliver a better education to their present and future peers. Voice is developing successfully as the school's culture and ethos have adapted to nurture and support the integration and expansion of its activities.
Encouraging student participation is as beneficial to staff as it is to students. Students may not always describe school as their favourite place, but the more student voice we have in school, the more enjoyable it becomes. Through gradually building up confidence and skills, the students are able to work more effectively in partnership with staff to improve the school for everyone’s benefit.
