Student Union
The Student Union is a democratic, representative organisation, which means that we are run by the students, for the students. We try to ensure that the student voice is listened to and acted upon, and also seek to enhance the Post 16 experience by providing various opportunities for students in their time here.
We have regular meetings to discuss progress we are making with projects. As well as this, each dedicated member has their own responsibilities that they see to in their spare time: this includes activities such as producing a Student Newsletter and lunchtime playground monitoring.
We have also run fundraising events including Post 16 parties and a sponsored cycle to Bath and back. The majority of money made from these events is donated to various charities, including major organisations like Children In Need and also more local charities like the Wallace and Gromit's Children's Foundation. The remainder of any money raised in this way is used to help fund the students’ summer ball at the end of the year.
With the help of our Post 16 Heads, and Head teacher, we are also looking to unite the Student Unions from all the Post 16s in the Kingswood partnership, which includes Mangotsfield, Hanham, Kingsfield, the Grange and Sir Bernard Lovell. This will be beneficial to us as it will enable us to gain ideas on how to improve our Union further, and also help strengthen the relationship between these Post 16 centres. We also help organise the Kingswood Partnership ‘Talent Fest’ where singers, musicians and dancers have the opportunity to perform.
