Year 12 Summer School
Following the success of 3 Subject specific residentials in Sport and Media, the Outreach Team have decided to combine these provisions along with offerings from Humanities, Natural and Social Science and the Business school to offer an all encompassing summer school for those Year 12’s who are not sure if University is right for them, or what they intend to study.
Duration: Three Days
When: 5-7 July
Subjects Covered: English Language, Broadcast Journalism, Law, Sports Physiology and Marketing and many more!
Supporting Information: Careers, finance and student life are all up for discussion during the week
Accommodation: Provided in Halls of Residence

Year 12 and Year 13 GIRLS:
Gender Shadowing Programme at Orange- it is aimed at encouraging more young females into professions within the ICT sector.
The program will enable 2 Year 12 or Year 13 females to spend a day following a senior female member of our Information, Technology and Networks (IT&N) team. This will give you the opportunity to gain a first hand experience of what working within the ICT sector is really like. Their female employee will share experiences of working in the sector and demonstrate that it is a creative, innovative and engaging place to work.
They recommend you are interested in, or studying, sciences, information technology or engineering with a real interest in pursuing this career!
It will be in February - so you have to be quick. Please see Ms Wood, Mrs Jarrett, or Miss Morgan for more details!

All year 12 students who are interested in a career as a doctor - an opportunity to attend UCL's 'Commitment to Medicine' weekend course on 3/4th July. It will give you an insight into a career in medicine and help with the interview and application process.

Sutton Trust Summer School
Open to Year 12 students who meet all or most of the following criteria
i. Will be the first generation in their family to attend university
ii. Have achieved at least 5 A/A*s at GCSE
iii. Are eligible for EMA
iv. Are taking relevant subjects in relation to the subject stream they are applying for
v. attend schools or colleges which have little history of sending pupils to research intensive universities
A FREE event at Univeristy of Bristol 4th Jul- 9th July.
You will spend a week experiencing university life, tasting a range of subject courses, staying in catered halls of residence. Please see website for all details of the many activities they offer.

Heythrop Psychology Essay Prize 2010
Question: The lack of a single theoretical framework in psychology is problematic for the disipline. Discuss.
1st Prize = £1000 2nd Prize = £500 3rd Prize = £250 4th Prize = £100 5th and 6th Prize = £50
The competition is open to all those studying AS, A Level psychology examinations (or equizalent) and who are not aged over 19 on 31st March 2010.
Requirements: 1500 words to be submitted by the 31st March 2010. All entries must be typed on one side of A4 paper and must be accompanied by an essay entry form which can be downloaded at www.heythrop.ac.uk.
