Level 2 Courses

BTEC First Diplomas

Those students who do not gain 5 grade C’s will choose a Level 2 course. At Downend we are offering the following options, all of which are 1 Year courses, these are the equivalent to a minimum of 4 grade ‘C’ passes at GCSE

• BTEC First Diploma in Sport and Fitness

• BTEC Business Studies plus NVQ Level 1 Administration

• BTEC First Diploma in Public Services

• Functional Skills ICT

• BTEC First Diploma in Childcare, Learning and Development

• GCSE English and Maths re-sits

The level 2 offer will vary and expand over the next few years as Level 2 Diplomas are developed. Further information can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/diplomas

We have teamed up with City of Bristol College to offer a more vocational programme combining qualifications and skills development. Students will choose from one of the courses above, with work experience as an integral part of the programme for one day each week. As part of their work experience the students will be given the opportunity to take an NVQ Level 1 in Administration.

After this year, students then choose to progress on to level 3 courses, such as A levels while others continue with the vocational focus and progress onto a BTEC National qualification, a Modern Apprenticeship Course, or find employment at the end of the year.
