Downend Pupil To Play For Arsenal Ladies

Active for Life tees off to a great start

A pupil from a school in Bristol has been selected to play for Arsenal Ladies Football Academy. Hannah Short aged 16 and a Year 11 pupil at Downend School will start pre season training with the squad in August.

 Hannah has captained Downend Schools Girl football team for the past 5 years to great success. The girl’s team have won 3 county cups and also reached two National Cup quarter finals. Hannah has also attended England National Trials and has been on the standby for the England under 16 team.

Hannah was invited to a trial at Arsenal in May, where Hannah trained and played a friendly match, soon after Hannah received a email from the coach informing her she had won a place. Hannah will soon start an intensive training programme set by Arsenal before training in London commences.

Hannah Short said “I am really excited at the prospect of playing for such a high profile team, to play for Arsenal is a dream come true, but now the hard work begins. My ambition is to become a regular first team player and then perhaps one day play for England”
