A Downend school pupil is gaining a national reputation in a sport you would not normally associate with school children. Molly Winstone aged 12 was the Gold medal winner in the British Novice Wrestling Championships in Manchester in November.

A Year twelve student from Downend School has been selected from a national field to become a member of the National Learner Panel. Grace Beazer a 16 yr student from Downend will commence her new role on November 19th and will attend her first meeting in Birmingham which will last for two days.

Xoolon Sports Day
Pupils at Downend School will have a sports day with a difference this year. The Xoolon Sports and Fitness Academy has sponsored years 7, 8, and 9 to participate in the Xoolon Games summer sports day a total of 810 pupils in total.

Downend Pupil Joins Coaching Elite
A seventeen year old pupil from Downend School will be training with England’s top coaches at a training camp in Warwick. Jordan Kenny a year twelve pupil at Downend School has been selected from 1000 coaches nationwide to attend a football Association Leadership camp.

School Boy Doing A Runner
A Year 11 pupil from Downend School will be representing the county at the English Schools National Championship in Sheffield on the 10th/11th July 09. Fifteen year old Brett Halliwell selected for the third year running will compete in the 800 metres race.

A pupil from a school in Bristol has been selected to play for Arsenal Ladies Football Academy. Hannah Short aged 16 and a Year 11 pupil at Downend School will start pre season training with the squad in August.

Television Drama Day
Year 10 students from the Creative & Media Diploma and Drama GCSE courses took part in a television drama workshop on Wednesday. Students had the rare opportunity of working closely with industry professionals which included a top director and two actors.

Model Citizens
All 1300 pupils at a Bristol School are having the day off normal lessons this week. Pupils at Downend School are taking the day off timetable to take part in a variety of activities to give pupils opportunities to work together and develop their skills to become responsible citizens within and beyond school.

Clear In Any Language
Downend School will be celebrating the European Day of Languages by giving students the opportunity to learn one of 10 different languages, ranging from Latin, which is considered to be a dead language, to an emerging language like Spanish. In the mix, students may well pick up a bit of Japanese or even Arabic!
