Downend School is a specialist Technology College, and boasts unrivalled technology facilities housed in a £7 million building.
All students in Years 7-9 follow a broad and practical Technology curriculum which develops their understanding of the design process from concept to realisation, and promotes skills of creativity and problem-solving.
An extensive range of Technology options for students in Years 10-13 includes Food, Textiles, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Electronics and Engineering.
Downend School has superb ICT facilities across all curriculum areas, centred around our new ICT hub. Our new Communication course for students in Years 8 and 9 develops an understanding of digital literacy, IT and enterprise. Students are also able to study courses in both ICT and Computing through to Year 13.
Science is an integral part of the Downend curriculum and is housed in well-resourced specialist accommodation. All students follow an introductory course at KS3, followed by a choice of courses at KS4, including BTEC Science, GCSE Science, or separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Maths is studied by all students in Years 7-11. Students are placed in ability groups from the start of Year 7 and are provided with extensive support including individual tuition when needed. Our most able mathematicians follow a broader curriculum culminating in the FSMQ qualification, and A-level Maths is a popular option.
