GCSE Food Technology

GCSE Food Technology is a two year course which focuses, as it’s name suggests on food as a material to design and make with.

What will I be doing?

Year 10
In Year 10 you will work through a number of projects which will develop your knowledge and understanding , as well as practical skills. The projects cover a wide variety of activities from tasting foods, to designing new products.

You will have the opportunity to use IT, using CAD packages as well as specific food technology programmes. You will learn about how food is made on a large scale in industry and even try your hand at setting up and running a 'batch production'. And of course you will do some cooking!

Year 11

Much of the focus of Year 11 will be on producing coursework. This will be your chance to show the assessors your ability to apply the knowledge, designing skills and making skills gained in Yr10. You will work through the design process, designing and making using food & will be assessed both on your practical work as well as your coursework folder. The importance of this piece of work is reflected in its marks - 60% of the total GCSE!
