GCSE CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Introduction
This course is aimed at those pupils who would like to work with children or are looking for an interesting and different GCSE.

ASSESSMENT
1x examination worth 50% marks
1x child study worth 50% marks
The examination paper will cover the following 3 topics:
- The Family: including variation of family type, planning a family, reproduction, pregnancy, birth.
- Care of the Child: including newborn, postnatal care, feeding and nutrition, hygiene, medical needs.
- Development of the Child: including physical, intellectual, emotional and social development, play and special needs.
During the course aspects of biology, psychology and sociology will be studied.
Child study
The child study is an in-depth study of the development of a single child aged between 0-5 years made over at least 6 months. This requires a lot of commitment from the pupils and it is a major piece of coursework. This is worth 50% of the GCSE marks!
