Community
Downend is an outward looking school. As part of our Specialist School programme we are focusing on and improving our engagement with our local community. As an outward looking school we are developing sustainable partnerships and networks that make a real difference to aspiration, achievement and lifelong learning. We have a constantly widening network in the community with parents, carers, local businesses, primary schools, secondary schools and community organisations.

Primary Links
Over the last several years we have established an extensive and varied programme of primary liaison using curriculum-based and extra curricular activities. We are gradually widening our networks to every area of our curriculum. This strengthens our links with our partner primaries and bridges the gap between the primary and secondary phases of education. Go to the Primary Links page.
Business in the Community
We have developed links with many local businesses. All students undertake work experience with many diverse businesses and organisations. The Post 16 and BTEC Engineering students work with local and national organisations, through visits and projects.
Community & Lifelong Learning Courses
As part of our aim to engage with the local community, Downend School has run courses for adults during the evening. These have included introductory and advanced courses in digital camera use, and a popular Family History course. See examples of past courses here.
