A-Level results and Best Ever GCSE Exam Results

Downend School – GCSE Results

Downend School has achieved its best ever set of exam results and congratulations must go to our students for their hard work in securing this fantastic outcome. They have worked really hard and deserve their success. We also need to acknowledge the hard work of staff and the support of parents in this set of results; 62% of students achieved the benchmark passes in English and Maths. The results are very pleasing, especially when you consider the changes to the GCSE examinations this year.

There were strong performances in English and Mathematics as well as an improvement in the number of students who achieved passes in EBacc subjects.

There were a number of outstanding performances from individual students although it must be emphasised that the whole cohort achieved well.

We are looking forward to seeing a large number of those receiving their results in September when they join our Sixth Form. However we wish all of them the very best for their future.

Downend & Mangotsfield Sixth Form

Downend and Mangotsfield schools formally merged their Sixth Form provision in September 2015. The rationale was simple: to create a wider curriculum offer across two schools via a high quality, shared experience. Students move between the sites, and teachers and leaders collaborate closely. There has been an increased focus on academic outcomes and a really positive ethos, where learning comes first. The facilities in both schools have been updated to create a really dynamic and purposeful learning environment.

Downend School – A Level Results

I would like to congratulate all of our students on their A Level and AS Level results. They have worked incredibly hard and deserve the success they have achieved. I would also like to thank their parents for the support they have given and the teaching staff at the school for their hard work.

Downend School has continued its track record of strong A level results with a large number of A Level entries receiving grades A*- B. At AS level the school also continued its recent history of excellent results.

At A Level there were some fantastic individual successes:

  • Ridwan Axmed                 A, A, A
  • Barbara Vanotti                A, A, A
  • Alessandro Ruggiero       A*, A, B
  • Stephanie Hacker            Distinction*, A, B
  • Wiilliam Packwood           A, A, B
  • William Plummer              A, A, B

I am really proud of our students who have achieved so much.  The Sixth Form at Downend is a fantastic place and the students have really made the best of the opportunities they have been offered. On behalf of the school we wish them all well as they embark on the next stage of their journey whether that is University, work or an apprenticeship.
