Admissions from Year 6
We feel it is important that parents and carers make an informed decision about which school they would prefer their child(ren) to attend and feel there is no substitute for visiting any school you are considering. Sadly, this year we will be unable to safely hold our Open Evening or Open Morning tours for prospective students and their families.
It would have been wonderful to have met you in person and introduce you to our school, our staff and, importantly, our students.
We have therefore created the following resources to help you make the right decision for your family.
- Video including an introduction from the Headteacher and transition team.
- A virtual tour of the school with student guides.
- A frequently asked questions sheet that hopefully answers question you may have.
These will be uploaded to our website on Thursday 24th September.
We hope this offers a flavour of Downend school and helps make that all important choice for your child’s secondary education.
In addition we will set up a dedicated e-mail address/inbox for any specific questions shortly .
If your child is starting school for the first time in September or transferring from Year 6 primary school to Year 7 Secondary school, you will need to fill in an application form which can be found at the back of the admissions to school booklet. The closing date for the application is normally mid October the year before they are due to start.
The information contained in the booklet are intended to help you through the initial stages of the process. You will find the booklet in the contents of the website below:
Once the local authority have offered your child(ren) a place at Downend School, you will receive a letter from us explaining the transition stage. You will be invited to attend a transition evening; which will be followed by a transition day for your child(ren). Please click on the links below for copies of the paperwork you will need to complete/read prior to your child starting at school.
